What this means: A percentile compares your child to others the same age and sex. Being in the 50th percentile means they are right in the middle. The 25th percentile means 25% of children are smaller. The 75th percentile means they are bigger than 75%. Anything between the 5th and 95th percentile is considered normal.

Important to know
📊
The curve matters more than the number
Steady growth along a percentile line is the goal — even if it's the 10th or 90th.
📈
Small fluctuations are normal
Babies can jump 10-15 percentile points between visits, especially in the first 6 months.
🧬
Genetics drive a lot of this
Tall parents tend to have taller kids. Heavier parents tend to have heavier kids. Don't compare to other families.
⚕️
When to call your pediatrician
If your child crosses two or more percentile lines (up or down) between visits, mention it.
